From 1988 onwards, Mercedes-Benz again began competing as an official works team in the Group C racing series. The Sauber-Mercedes C9, which had an output of over 515 kW (700 hp), won a total of five races, and in 1989 Sauber-Mercedes took the world championship with the C9.
